High-quality functional testing using flow cytometry for the assessment of heparin-induced thrombocythemia (HIT).
The HITAlert kit uses donor platelets (PRP), which are incubated in the presence of patient serum and in the presence or absence of heparin. When pathogenic antibodies are present, activation of donor platelets is demonstrated using a platelet activation marker. By incubating the samples with a platelet antibody and an activation marker, this reaction can be observed using flow cytometry. The HITAlert test should be used as a screening test. Results should always be used in conjunction with clinical findings or other serological tests.
